Probably good for adding detail to simple objects. However, I wanted to use it to map pores onto a humanoid model with around 20,000 polygons. Adding this caused it to crash blender (Running out of memory? Not sure. I have 128GB plus swap space).
I went into the nodes and tuned the defaults down, the subdivision does some strange things. If you lower some settings down, the model seems to shrink. If you lower others down, the model starts to look faceted (not like using the subdivision modifier which preserves curves). This is probably some artifact of the subdivision node, and not the fault of the author, though. Maybe much of this could be bypassed by having a version that relied on you adding the subdivision surface or multi-resolution modifier before the geometry nodes, so you can control the actual subdivision better.
