This version checks for either legacy or 4.1 and applies the appropriate smoothing.
If you're in 4.1 it will add the new "Smooth by angle" modifier automatically (with the optimal initial settings.). If you're running the addon in any version prior to 4.1 it will run the legacy code and auto-smooth as appropriate. 


Smart Smooth

We all know what it's like, to press  "Shade Smooth" on the right menu of a mesh, and it's suddenly either looking all buggered or sometimes even no change at all !  
  When this happens, there are many things to consider, and a variatey of clicks and ui searching to get it working as you want.  Sometimes, often, the elusive problem just evades you and it's a frustrating mess.

   Smart Smooth just takes care of all that nonsense!  Sure, it's nothing you probably couldn't have found and fixed manually, but that's why SmartSmooth just makes life a little easier.  QOL!   It takes that mundane clickery away 


This is a fairly typical scenario we see all too often. After many operations, the normals of a mesh can become quite a mess. Sometimes it's an easy fix, sometimes it's a pain to track down, especially if you have a large amount of objects.This is a fairly typical scenario we see all too often. SmartSmooth accepts multiple meshes and applies its fixes to all.

Simply right click in object mode, and intuitively QOL SmartSmooth can be found right above the shade smooth option!  It's exactly the same routine as your normal Shade Smooth process, only cleaner.

The resulting geometry has a number of fixes applied, so you end up with the results you were expecting.

Should you feel the need to tweak or troubleshoot, a couple of extra options are available in the bottom left panel after running SmartSmooth. Toggling them on or off can fix different issues, though the default SmartSmooth routines should take care of 99% of your average routine smooth shading needs.




Fast, simple stuff!  

You shouldn't have to worry about silly things like smoothing. It should be intuitive.  And that's the ethos of QOL tools.
