The fidelity of the Lens Sim add-on is truly impressive, revolutionizing VFX workflows by bringing unmatched realism to live-action integration. Its accurate lens simulation enhances depth, distortion, and cinematic authenticity like never before. This tool has changed the game, making digital cinematography more lifelike. A tutorial on creating custom lenses would be invaluable, helping artists push realism even further. Your work is shaping the future of virtual filmmaking! 🚀

      Thank you Marcus!
I have a tutorial on implementing custom lenses in the documentation section, but it's a bit outdated now. Once the next update is out, I'll make sure to revisit and remake the tutorial so that it's up to date :)

I already believed that v1.0.0 was brilliant. Version 2.0.0 is a new step. Absolutely wonderful my friend! This tool is saved as default for my startup of a project. There is no substitute.

Even if this was a well established addon and not a 1.0 release, this would be a mind-blowing addon. The fact it gets such amazing results out of the gate is just awesome. Future tweaks for use of use, additional lens options, etc. will make this even better. I'm amazed. I really look forward to seeing how this addon evolves. Thank you so much for your hard work. You have an amazing mind!

This addon is absolutely incredible. Its true capabilities shine the closer you get to your subject, delivering unparalleled realism that elevates any Blender project. For artists who take their work seriously and aim to simulate reality within CG, this addon is the missing puzzle piece they've been waiting for.

It’s the quintessential photorealistic camera lens simulator, setting a new standard and outshining every other addon in the Blender community. If you’re on the fence about purchasing, I can’t recommend it enough. The value is extraordinary, especially considering its ability to create stunningly realistic shots. When paired with lifelike models, environments, and lighting setups, the results are simply breathtaking.

For those concerned about slightly increased render times, don’t be—any minor delay is barely noticeable and absolutely worth the payoff.

Phenomenal work, Håvard! I can’t wait to see what groundbreaking addons you create next.

i really like the addon. The quality of the renders made with this is really good.
What i dont like is the extreme complexity of the adjustments. There is no easy mode here and you have to absolutely know what you are doing otherwise you will never even get a sharp image -_- im probably to dumb even though i have used canon eos cameras for almost 20 years. F-stop or aperture doesnt even do what youre expecting it to do. Getting a sharp image even with help of the empty object is a hassle. And i always have the problem with this artificial vignette filter around any lens. No adjustment has helped to get 100% rid of it. So i cant render with transparent background because theres always a slight dark tint around my renders.. As with all these addons, there is a lack of tutorials and help with adjustments.
I also would have liked more standard lenses, not something from 1942 or so. Yes i know you can make your own lenses somehow, but to understand that you probably have to have some degree in rocket science or physics or something....

      Hi olaf,
I'm working on an update that will improve focusing for most lenses. Unfortunately, the vignetting is a byproduct of ray tracing the lens elements inside a material and is a limitation of the system.

It would be great if you could send me a private message elaborating on what you think is missing from the tutorials, the usability, and explaining how the f-stop should work. I'm self-taught in this field and not a photographer myself, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The upcoming update will also make it easier to implement your own lenses. If you have any specific patents you would like to have, let me know, and I can implement and send them to you.

When this addon first appeared, I couldn’t believe it. Who could have imagined such a precise implementation of an actual lens?
Now, whenever I see renders without this addon, they feel so flat and fake.

That said, there are a few drawbacks. Since it uses an ORTHOGRAPHIC-type camera, controlling movements like camera shifts can be inconvenient. Additionally, because of the virtual aperture plane, there are challenges in avoiding interference when working with multiple cameras.

Despite these minor issues, this is an incredible addon, and I regularly recommend it to others. Thank you so much for creating this amazing tool! 👍👍👍

      Thank you narz!
I am currently working on a setup that works with a perspective camera, improving the viewport navigation a lot. I might be able to improve the interference issue too. Look out for the next update ;)

      Thanks Robin!
Dirt textures is not included, if you want a place to find textures I would recommend:
      https://3dassets.one/
I think I used this one in the tutorial:

The addon breaks when you move the camera too far away. At a long enough distance, it will disregard objects moving towards or away from the camera as if to suggest object locations are baked into the lens view (except for movement along the z-axis). This addon is useless for complicated animated scenes that require a lot of camera movement.

      Hi Reagan,
I'm sorry to hear about the problems you're experiencing. Please feel free to send me a private message here on Blender Market so I can investigate the issues further.

Amazing addon. It does exactly what it advertises, but as you can see, I'm giving it 4/5 stars. The reason is that it could be very finicky at times. The document says "If the camera lens parameters are changed outside of the Lens Sim panel, the lens setup may break", but sometimes it breaks even when you're using the addon correctly. I've had instances where I put it to render, and the renders come out completely black even when I haven't changed anything. This could be fixed by enabling and disabling the lens, but it's a common enough issue that I need to bump my rating down a star. This is just the initial release of this addon though, so I'm hoping it's something that could be fixed eventually. Some complicated node setups may not render completely right, but those rare instances are related to issues with Blender's Ray Portals, and not the fault of the addon, so I won't make it down for that. Don't let my complaint stop you from getting the addon though. It is still very much worth it, and these issues are easy to deal with. It's just something I felt needed to be addressed.

Such a phenomenal add on. I've been using it for a few weeks and it really brings a level of realism to my work. Totally stunned by its quality. My only request for future versions might be to include some lense from C-Seires Panaflex or Cooke lenses, but only for my cinematic options. But that would only add to what is already an amazing add on.

      Thanks!
I'll gladly implement new lenses if you can find the patents for them. One user has found a Cooke patent, I think I will post it on the blenderartist forum when its implemented :)
