Useful Subdivision Spheres

by Dinoreplicas in Models

Low poly (all quad) subdivision surface objects adjusted to be highly spherical.

I use these all the time for modeling projects and find them very convenient. The main use is to incorporate a sphere into a subdivision object. Sometimes I just need a low poly sphere placeholder or modeling guide.

Options for 8-sided (2 versions), 6-sided, 12-sided and 16-sided.

All objects include UV maps for texturing purposes, the lowest poly version has 2 alternative UV layouts, an equirectangular and a 12 island version that makes good use of the UV tile space.

A typical modeling example is my 3D printed jointed spider.

The base model is completely constructed with subdivision surfaces using 8-sided quad-spheres for the ball and socket joints at the base of each leg. They work perfectly on the 3D printed model.

Files included for Blender 3+, 2.79 and .OBJ.
