Made for Cycles

"The Roads Must Roll" currently works with Cycles only, as not all materials seem to work with EEVEE.

Current Limitations

Converting the road to a mesh or exporting to another software package

While it’s possible to convert the road into a mesh and then export it to other software, there are currently some limitations.

For more details, please see the FAQ on our website

Most materials are unlikely to successfully convert to another software package.

Using 'Material Preview' mode in the viewport

Since 'Material Preview' relies on the EEVEE render engine, it’s not supported at this time.

Traffic Simulation

You can easily animate cars on each road object individually, with adjustable parameters like the density of cars, their random seed, spacing, and speed. Each road object is based on a single curve.
However, this is not a full traffic simulation, as vehicles do not interact with traffic lights, intersections, or each other.

Custom Lane Width

The lanes are currently a fixed width of 3.5 meters (11.48 feet). I'm planning to make this adjustable in the future.

What's New?

Upcoming: Version 1.23

(Probably 4-11-2024)

( Currently in development: wet materials with adjustable puddles, additional material options for all surfaces, damaged surface variations, international overhead sign options, and more... )

Version 1.22

27-09-2024

I’ve added the option to generate the white (and yellow) lines on the asphalt as geometry, as an alternative to adding them directly within the asphalt material. You can also adjust the height of these lines. Good news if you want to convert the road to a mesh. See the FAQ on our website.

At the very bottom of the settings in the main road modifier panel, I’ve created a new panel called "Convert to Mesh Preparation" Here, you can check the 'Realize Instances' box. For more details, see the FAQ on our website.

If you've chosen a custom car collection, you can now rotate all the cars simultaneously around their own axes.

You can now also use your own tree collection.

Increasing the subdivision of the road surface now works more effectively.

Version 1.21

22-09-2024

Resolved a minor issue where the diagonal bars on the overhead signs were disappearing.
