Simple Toon Eye Collection W Geometry Node Eyelids

by Just Ducky Artworks in Modifier Setups

**UPDATED**

March 10, 2024 - Now also includes an Add-on to automatically duplicate and position the eyes onto a character with temporary eyes.

Now includes all the variations covered in my DadsCastle Blender tutorials on YouTube!  The collection includes both geometry node and procedural eyelids as well as eyelashes.  There is also a simple rig to demonstrate how to use eye and eyelid drivers.  You can select two different procedural eyes - simple toon and stylized -  however they should work on most eyeball shaders that are based on a UV Sphere.

Stylized rig-ready cartoon eyelids are controlled by very easy and simple geometry nodes (no fiddling with lattices and shape keys).  The lids follow the eye curvature without the need for shape keys or lattices.  You can scale the eye for different shapes as desired.  Only difference with Version 2 file is an additional vertex group (eyeball) to simplify rigging steps.

Note: the procedural lids can become a bit unstable when adding the eyelashes (particularly when near fully open lids) due to buggy behavior of the Mesh Boolean node.  The geometry node lids are generally a better choice if using eyelashes.

Video Overview and Instructions

Lid Controls: The lids are controlled in the Modifier Properties panel (wrench icon).  There are controls for top lid open/close, bottom lid open/close, and top lid angle.  Since the eyes are procedural, it is best to view in 'material preview' mode in Viewport Shading.  The lids can be easily animated using drivers with whatever rig you choose.

The eyeball rotation for the procedural eyes are controlled in the Material Properties tab:

A step by step video tutorial on how to make and operate the eyelids is here: Eyelid video tutorial

Tutorials for rigging the eyes, procedural eyelids, and geometry node eyelashes are on the DadsCastle YouTube Channel
