  Seems like this addon only really works with basic square geometry. If your geometry looks like the object used in the demo video it will work fine, however won't work on, say, a sphere or a cylinder

  I have to say, that's not true. It's totally possible to add this to different meshes like spheres, cylinders etc. Take a look at product page - I added a few examples...
