Core | Fundamentals Of Animation

by CG Cookie in Training

This course is also available as part of the CORE Bundle of Fundamental Blender Courses

Let's learn to make things move in Blender!

In this course, we will explore all the tools you need to get things moving in Blender.

Animation can be challenging, especially when tackling advanced topics like character animation or motion graphics. You don’t want to be stuck and frustrated trying to figure out how to set a keyframe or use the graph editor to change your interpolation just when you’re starting to explore concepts like squash and stretch.

My goal with this course is to set a foundation from which to learn and get you up and running as quickly and efficiently as possible, helping you overcome the technical hurdles that Blender might present.

By the end, you will feel confident moving forward into the more advanced topics of animation and when you encounter challenges, they’ll be more about refining your animation rather than struggling with the software.

Let's get started!

What you'll learn

Framerates and Timeline

To kick off a successful animation, it's key to understand frame rates and how they affect the smoothness and realism of your work. Once you've got that down, you'll dive into Blender's timeline to set keyframes and control movement, laying the groundwork for fluid animations.

Let's move things

We’re stepping up by learning how to move, rotate, and scale objects in both world and local space, starting with manipulators and then mastering Blender's hotkeys to boost your workflow. To wrap things up, you'll learn how to render and export your animations, so you can share your creations with the world.Want more CG Cookie Courses?

Objects and Armatures

To create complex animations, it's crucial to understand the roles of objects and armatures—while objects are the basics, armatures act as the skeleton for more advanced movements like character animation. Then, you'll dive into the graph editor, Blender's second animation editor, to fine-tune your keyframes and perfect the timing and flow of your animations.

Animation Data

We dive into animation data in Blender, showing how it can be shared and tweaked across different objects and scenes to save time and boost creativity. Then, we explore the Dope Sheet and Action Editor for advanced keyframe control before wrapping up with editing your shots in Blender’s Video Sequence Editor (VSE) and exporting your final animation.
