In this class, we’ll learn how to create an animated magic portal from scratch!

We’ll be going through the entire process of creating this magic portal animation from a beginner’s perspective to avoid as much confusion as possible. That means I won’t be skipping any steps or going too fast for you to keep up with me.

This class is meant for complete beginners to Blender. No experience in Blender (or 3d modeling in general) is needed to follow along, though it certainly wouldn't hurt! I'll will teach you everything you need to know in the first lesson, so you can get started with the rest of the class.

In this class you'll learn:

Blender Interface and Tools: Learn about many basic tools and interface elements within Blender while modeling and animating our magic portal.
Modeling: Create a stylized magic portal from scratch using simple modeling tools and modifiers like Bevel, Displace and Simple Deform.
Lighting: Set up a stylized lighting scheme including volumetric lighting.
Shading: Give objects the appearance of swirling magic portals, glowing embers, cracked stone and more.
Animating: Create a subtle looping animation featuring our swirling magic portal.
Compositing: Composite simple render effects in Blender to add to the magical look of our portal.
Rendering: Render a final animation in Blender so you can share it with your friends and family on social media.
Animated GIF Conversion: Convert your final video render into an easily sharable animated gif.
