1. What is Assetify?
Assetify is a Blender add-on designed to streamline the process of creating game-ready and exportable 3D assets. It automates tasks like texture baking, UV unwrapping, and exporting assets in formats like FBX, OBJ, GLTF, and STL.
2. What formats can I export with Assetify, and where can they be used?
Assetify supports the following formats:
-
FBX: Perfect for game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine.
-
OBJ: Widely used in 3D modeling and rendering software.
-
GLTF/GLB: Ideal for web applications, AR/VR experiences, and lightweight assets.
-
STL: Best suited for 3D printing workflows.
3. Can Assetify handle procedural geometry nodes setups?
Yes! Assetify fully supports geometry nodes, allowing you to bake and export procedural assets into game-ready formats seamlessly.
4. Does Assetify work with collections?
Yes, Assetify offers Collection Mode to manage, bake, and export entire collections and their subcollections. It also allows you to switch between Asset Mode (for individual assets) and Collection Mode (for grouped workflows).
5. Can I use Assetify for 3D printing?
Absolutely! Assetify’s STL export option ensures that your models are optimized for 3D printing. You can process and simplify models for precise results.
6. Does Assetify automate texture baking?
Yes! Assetify automates the baking of textures like diffuse, roughness, metallic, and custom maps. It supports baking multiple materials into a single texture for performance optimization.
7. Can I customize the workflow in Assetify?
Definitely! Assetify provides options to enable or bypass specific steps, such as custom attribute processing, baking, or geometry modifications, so you can tailor the workflow to your project needs.
8. What platforms are supported for exported assets?
Assets exported from Assetify are compatible with major platforms, including:
- Game Engines: Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot.
- Rendering Tools: Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D.
- Web Platforms: AR/VR experiences via GLTF.
- 3D Printers: With STL files.
9. Is Assetify suitable for beginners?
Yes! Assetify is designed to be intuitive and beginner-friendly while offering advanced tools for professionals. Whether you’re new to asset creation or a seasoned developer, Assetify simplifies the process.
10. What happens if my assets or collections change?
Assetify dynamically updates its lists and ensures that all changes to assets or collections are reflected. It handles both individual assets and collection hierarchies with ease.
11. Can I use Assetify with custom attributes?
Yes! Assetify supports custom attributes for geometry nodes, allowing you to transfer and bake these attributes into your final assets.
12. How do I install Assetify?
Simply download the add-on, go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons in Blender, and click Install. Select the Assetify file, enable the add-on, and you're ready to go!
13. Does Assetify support both Windows and MacOS?
Yes, Assetify is compatible with Blender on Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
14. What versions of Blender are supported?
Assetify is optimized for Blender 4.0 - 4.3. Ensure you’re using an updated version of Blender for the best experience.
15. Can I update Assetify after purchase?
Yes! Your purchase includes free updates, ensuring you always have the latest features and fixes.
16. My baked textures don't match my own UV map, why?
If you checked "Skip UV Unwrapping" and use your own UV map, you need to make sure that the correct UV map is selecte as active. If this is a wrong one, it will bake to a wrong UV map. If you have this checkbox disabled, it will automatically UV unwrap your asset, which means the UV map will look different than the original UV map.
17. One of the materials seems to be missing, why?
If one of the assets does not have ANY material, it will get a wrong or missing material after baking as well, because there is no material to bake in and add textures to for baking. Make sure it has a material, even if that is the default white base material.
18. I keep on crashing when baking, how can I fix that?
Baking is basically rendering, which means its performance is dependent on your rig as well as the geometry and materials of the assets you are trying to bake. Even the full scene lay-out may impact baking. There's a few thing you can try.
- Switch between GPU and CPU rendering. CPU generally feels a bit more stable and my work in more cases. Also try enabling tiling.
- Check your object resolution and geometry. Sometimes excessive amounts of subdivision levels may cause crashes.
- Try baking the asset in a clean scene without other objects or elements. This may make it easier for Blender to start the render.
19. I'm getting pink textures when rendering, why?
If you for some reason try an asset from the list when it already has been baked, it may bake pink the second time. This is because Assetify applies the baked textures to the assets after baking. This means the second bake you run will then bake from the images that are already baked, and a kind of loop is formed. Make sure that if you want to re-bake an asset, you reprocess it first. That will reset your materials.
