Corliss Steam Engine At Centennial Exhibition Philadelphia 1876

by Steam Power of the Past - Landmark Steam Engines in Models

An American engineer George Corliss developed and patented the "Corliss Valve Gear" in 1849, and dramatically improved the efficiency of his steam engines. His desogn controlled the intakle and exhaust valves with great precision, enabling more efficient control of steam expansion which conserved fuel and increased power output.

The U.S. organized  an international exhibition in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The Corliss engine was selected as centrepiece of the event, symbolizing American innovation and industrial power.

This Blender 3D model offers insight in the working of the engine.
