Bone Mirror Rename

As someone who always chooses the hard way, I've spent a lot of time making and re-making rigs, and what irks me the most is that blender knows bones are mirrored, but won't rename them as pairs.

Yes, you can already select 2 separate bones and "Auto-Name Left/Right". But why? Why have those extra steps? It was quicker to manually rename the second bone.

Eventually, I got tired enough of this to fix that problem. Now renaming bones is just that much easier.


What this Add-On does

Simple: when a bone is renamed, the mirrored bone is also renamed. How?

  • The bones have left and right indicators in the names
  • The bones are otherwise named the same
  • It does not depend on location, scale, rotation, or any transform
